Government's resource management proposals

The Government is introducing a range of resource management changes during November and December 2024. These changes will include:

• Amendments to the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA)
• Seven new national direction instruments (national policy statements and national environmental standards)
• Amendments to fourteen existing national direction instruments.

These changes will be passed into law or made operational in mid-2025.

HortNZ will be submitting on these changes on behalf of the wider industry.

Vegetables NZ has been working with HortNZ to advocate for vegetable growing as a permitted activity. While we have heard promising signals from the Government, we do not know what form this will take yet.
