New Vegetable IPM workshops | 7 Oct~25 Nov | Pukekohe

29 September 2025

Vegetables NZ, as part of A Lighter Touch, is hosting a series of spring, integrated pest management (IPM) workshops.

Lettuce will be the focus crop but the workshop will include information on both onions and barley. All growers, agronomists, and crop advisors are welcome to join in and take part. The classroom session will be online, so those outside of the Pukekohe area will have the option of joining.

The workshop will follow a similar model as the previous ones, with two sessions, an outdoor and a classroom session. The outdoor session will focus on crop monitoring, how to inspect a crop for pests and diseases, identification, etc. We will also look at some of the biodiversity work that is being done at the Cronin Rd demonstration farm.

The classroom session will review what was found during the morning. This will extend to trends of numbers over time, whether any intervention is required, what is compatible with IPM practices, and the effects of any management options taken. We will also have guest speakers throughout the series of workshops to provide additional information on pests, diseases or other crops.
