Brassica integrated pest management workshops – start 7 February

3 January 2024

Following the hugely successful lettuce integrated pest management (IPM) workshop series, Vegetables NZ and A Lighter Touch are running another series, this time with the focus on broccoli.

Once again, the classroom session will be online, so those outside the Pukekohe area can also participate.

The workshops will follow a similar model to the previous series, with two sessions, an outdoor and classroom session. The outdoor session will focus on crop monitoring, how to inspect a crop for pests and diseases, identification, etc. The outdoor session will also look at some of the biodiversity work we are doing at the Cronin Rd Demonstration farm.

The classroom session will review what was found during the morning. Over the course of the workshops, this will extend to pest number trends over time, whether any intervention is required and what is compatible with IPM practices, and the effects of any management options taken.

We will also have a guest speaker at each workshop to provide additional information on key aspects of broccoli production.

The broccoli workshops start on at 8am on Wednesday 7 February. They continue each week until Wednesday 27 March.

Exact details will be in the calendar event, once you have registered.
