The 2007 export year saw an increase in fresh vegetable (including potatoes and fresh tomatoes) exports by both volume and value. Exports in 2007 were 318,605 tonnes worth $237.66M. This compares to 251,683 tonnes worth $180.74M in 2006.

 

 

Stand out performers were onions, 186,030 tonnes at $121.1M, capsicums, 6,205 tonnes at $33.59M, and salad vegetables 428 tonnes at $1.15M.

Export volumes are expected to increase due to New Zealand's ability to provide a variety of quality fresh vegetables all year round and the development of post-harvest technology and delivery systems will ensure produce will reach export markets in excellent condition.
